I was about nine years old when I was talking to my best friend a few days before Christmas. "Have you noticed that Christmas doesn't seem as magical as when we were little?" She asked. And at nine, we were still pretty little. Until then I hadn't really thought about it, but for a lot of people Christmas has become less 'Magical' than it used to be.
Christmas is special, or it should be. And I think it should stay that way. Christmas is special in a holy, lovely kind of way.
I don't even want to get into the 'commercialization' of Christmas that a lot of people complain about. But can I just say one thing about it. Yes, 'greedy' companies do make the most they can out of Christmas. Just like they do everything else they possibly can. But we can't let that anger towards them ruin our Christmas spirit.
Here is why Christmas is still special:
1. Jesus left heaven for us.
I can't get over how much that means. It wasn't just coming to earth, it was leaving the glory of heaven. And it wasn't just leaving heaven, it was the beginning of something much greater. The cross.
2. It is a time of peace.
Our rushing, busy world stops for one day. That isn't normal. We couldn't just make that up. Something amazing had to happen to leave us so impacted by it awesomeness.
I love giving gifts to people, it's a form of sharing God's love with them. And yes, I also love getting gifts. (I'm such a heathen!) For people who are born with a selfish nature to go out of their way to do nice things for others. Can I just say: That's AMAZING!
4. Christmas music.
I love Christmas music. I was walking down the street
last night during a Christmas celebration, And you know what I heard playing through the whole square? "... My soul, my soul magnifies the Lord. He hath done great things for me..." You don't hear that year round!
I could say a lot more about Christmas, and I probably will in the next few weeks. Until then... Merry Christmas!
